Balinese House Compound

As we know Bali is famous of their ceremony with their believe to concept every single of their culture in daily live

we can see from their house compound, the Balinese house compound creating for the family live in the house, with the object form of building look human being structure including planning and lay out of their house compound. in basically divided into three part on which part they build structure of different purpose. Apply the direction concept of their traditional compass, Holly structures are build at mountain wards of the compound such as shrines ( head ), in the middle of the yard are build all structure of living quarters ( Body ) and at the seawards are kitchen, pigsty and remaining land where they usually through rubbish way.

In contrast to the most western  style houses, the traditional Balinese compound is always anclosed by either red bricks, sand stones and adobe wall covered with thatch roof made from sedge grass or rice stubbles. The compound it self is comprise of several structures with alang alang roofs.

To passing the house we will entrance the gate of the compound, on the both sides of the entrance wall, there are two nitches as the substation of shrine where, if necessary, their women put offering for evil spirit. if the family bit financially better off the usually construct separate shrines, same time elaborate one.

Notice on small board, it is for census board, containing the statistical profile of the family, such as name of the head family, total number of family classified into male and female.

Behind the entrance a screen wall built, to discourage evil spirit entering the house compound to trouble the family. Apart from this, it also function as preventing the visual contact  from the unfriendly person.

Next step we walk the kitchen which is usually share by their married children if they have to occupy the same compound. Genderally if their parents are rather well to do, the married children are provide with a new compound may be built in another village.

Near by from kitchen there is water jar for drinking water. The water is usually taken from their well, if available, otherwise they have to fetch water from the neigh bouring stream or natural spring water. Most farmers drink untread water but recently the government is undertaking a serious health campaign among other including the papulation to drink boiled water if the water is not hygienically trusted.

Part of equipment on the kitchen far from modern house there is stove  for fuel they usually use fire wood selected from their back yard or from neighbours property. There is no special dining room. They eat when and where they like. Most often they eat their meal in the kitchen.

The rice barn they usually raise their domestic animal such as sow with their tiny suckling pig in additional to these they also keep chicken, duck and cows.

On middle yard there is open pavilion. This structure is call Sumanggen, a ceremonial house. Than the house is not used for ceremony it is used for a nap or sleeping quartier with building bamboo roof rafter that hold the alang lang roof.

The small shrine location in the central of the yard sometime some time it s also located in the house temple. This is shrine is dedicated to spirits of the dwelling guardian 

Part of the other building  there is sleeping quarter of the virgin or newly weds the house is also used to keep their valuable. Therefore the building no windows. If is does. They will be small one simply for ventilation 

They build a new styled house to accommodate relative, friends and sometime guest. They obligate to stay over night when they are invited to attend a traditional or religious ceremonies could be a cremation, wedding or tooth filling ceremony.

The most holly compound here is house temple. There are many structure that form  a unit house temple  but basically they can be divided into three main group the first group is dedicated to the temporary enthrenement  of god the second one is dedicated to their ancestral spirits and the third one is use by family to prepare offering when needed.

There roofless shrine is call Padmasari dedicated to the temporary anthronement of god .Kemulan a roofed shrine with three room, dedicated to their ancestor.

One building also dedicate to their profession 

And other structure is call Pihyasan which is used to prepare offering or if needed to house pries when he is called for leading a temple ceremony that last over the night. Apart from these strcture there are many other structure such as for god of Gunung Agung, lake etc
